CHURCH NEWS

October 24, 2010 On October 24th, a bright sunny day, the Rev. DJ Lura’s installation as the pastor of Centennial Evangelical Lutheran Church took place. Bishop Claire Burkat of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America officiated. Also taking part were the Rev. Larry Hand, Assistant to the Bishop and the Rev. Paul Townsend, Dean.

Past pastors of Centennial and their wives who were introduced included the Rev. Paul and Carol Howells, the Rev. Jim and Nancy Munz, and the Rev. David and Gigi Mueller. Pastor DJ gave a message to the children attending. Pastor Mueller gave the sermon, “Grace Is …”

The dedication took place of the Yamaha Grand Piano given to the glory of God in loving memory of Priscilla Miller by John and Nancy Miller. Priscilla Miller had a life-long love of music. As a young woman she studied piano and voice. Priscilla was a member of Centennial’s choir for many years and at one time directed the Junior Choir. The opening instrumental anthem at the installation was presented on the new piano.

Taking part throughout the service with beautiful lively musical selections were the Bell, Chancel and Praise choirs under the direction of Marcella Curtiss, organist and music director.

Following the service, all were invited downstairs to Luther Hall for a covered dish luncheon featuring hot roast beef sandwiches. A multitude of side dishes and desserts were supplied by those attending, a delicious ending to a memorable morning.

And now, after almost three years, Centennial has Pastor DJ, his wife Melissa and daughters Addy and Reese, all eagerly waited for !

Our thanks to the volunteers who contributed in so many ways to the Installation and Luncheon—you made it a very special day.
